Luxury Gaslighting

A Series of Whimsy & Reality

In a world where luxury items reign supreme, I often find myself lost in the allure of high-end fashion—scrolling through TikTok, I stumbled upon a video showcasing an Hermès Kelly bag. The jaw-dropping price made me blurt out, “That’s a car.” While not a super fancy car, it represents a mode of transportation, a tangible asset that can transport you from A to B.

As someone who enjoys the occasional indulgence, I can’t help but juxtapose luxury prices with everyday realities. The concept of luxury goods often feels like a form of gaslighting, where we’re led to believe that these items hold inherent value, overshadowing the very real costs they represent in our lives—like rent or a car payment.
