Café Kur: Stop 1 – Altstadt Café Köpenick

The first café on my Café Kur journey took me to Altstadt Café Köpenick. It was an unusually warm October day, and I was lucky enough to enjoy it in their cozy garden, right by the Dahme. One word that kept coming to mind was traditional. Even though I was sitting outside, the place had a comforting, homey vibe.

The lace-trimmed uniform of the server added a special touch—it almost felt like visiting someone’s home for tea. I ordered a cup and just soaked in the sun, letting the peacefulness of the river and the simple beauty of the café surroundings inspire me.

I snapped some photos to use later for illustrations and patterns (see the art below). The way the light hit the tables, the calm flow of the Spree, and the boats quietly navigating around each other—it all had me thinking about what I could create from this moment.

Köpenick’s old town is full of history, with its cobblestone streets and centuries-old buildings. It’s a quieter part of Berlin but full of character. This café fit right in with that vibe—traditional, a little tucked away, and totally worth the visit if you’re looking to slow down and enjoy a peaceful spot.
